One cartridge for diagnosing and testing both the Commodore 128 and Commodore 64.

This Versa64 Diagnostic Cartridge is based on the well-known Versa64Cart platform and contains a selection of classic Commodore service and diagnostic ROMs. Ideal for collectors, repair technicians, and anyone who regularly tests or restores C64 and C128 systems.

Commodore 128 diagnostics

The cartridge contains four different C128 diagnostic versions:

• C-128/40 Diagnostic Rev. 588121
• C-128 Diagnostic Rev. 1.1
• C128 / C128D Diagnostic Rev. 785260

These original Commodore diagnostic programs were developed to check and locate hardware problems in the Commodore 128 series.

Depending on the selected diagnostic, memory, ROMs, system logic, and various internal components can be checked, among other things.

The 785260 diagnostic is one of the well-known Commodore service diagnostics for the C128/C128D series.

Commodore 64 diagnostics

The cartridge also contains several well-known diagnostic tools for the Commodore 64:

Dead Test 781220

One of the most important tools when repairing a faulty C64.

The Commodore Dead Test 781220 is specifically intended for machines that, for example:

• show a black screen;
• no longer boot normally;
• have suspected RAM problems;
• are not functioning sufficiently to start a normal diagnostic.

The Dead Test can often still start when a C64 is severely defective and helps locate hardware problems through test results and error indications.

Diagnostic 586220

The well-known Commodore service diagnostic 586220 checks, among other things:

• CPU
• RAM
• BASIC/KERNAL/Character ROM
• VIC-II
• SID
• CIAs
• PLA
• various I/O functions

For a complete test of all external connections, a 586220-compatible diagnostic harness is used.

Without a harness, the cartridge can still be used for various internal tests, but certain I/O tests may, of course, be reported as errors.

Doktor 64 – Rossmöller

The classic Rossmöller Doktor 64 / Diagnose & Test software offers an additional way to examine a Commodore 64, making it a useful complement to the official Commodore diagnostics.

Please note: diagnostic harness

For the most comprehensive tests, a separate diagnostic harness / loopback set is required for various Commodore diagnostics. The cartridge itself contains the diagnostic software; an external harness is only needed when the corresponding ports and connections also need to be fully tested.
